Ingredients:
- 3-4 lbs pork shoulder (also called pork butt)
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- Hamburger buns or slider rolls for serving
- Coleslaw (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
Prepare the pork: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.
Layer the slow cooker: Place the sliced onions at the bottom of your slow cooker. Place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions.
Add liquids: Pour the apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and BBQ sauce over the pork.
Cook: Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Shred the pork: Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and use two forks to shred the meat. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the juices.
Serve: Serve the pulled pork on hamburger buns or slider rolls, and top with coleslaw if desired.
